 Why the 2nd Amendment Matters

Jacque G. Houston, Texas

“I clearly remember a conversation that I had with my mother when I was approximately seven years old. I saw some anti-American demonstrations pertaining to Vietnam and I asked my mother why the United States was so bad.

My mother told me that the United States was the best country in the world because the people take care of themselves so the government does not get too big and too corrupt.

All we need is a driver's license to travel anywhere in the country.

Our taxes are less than 20% versus 50% to 80% in communist and socialist countries such as the Soviet Union and China.

We protect ourselves and have the right to do so.   No other country would dare attack us on our own soil because most people have guns and automobiles.

We have a government of the people and for the people.    The majority rules so that most of us are satisfied.   We cannot please all the people so a democracy makes it possible to please the majority.   This is the best form of government. [Although our form of government is actually a Republic it's almost the same].

Most of these positive traits of America have been destroyed by selfish politicians, lawyers, lobbyists, financial institutions, and large corporations, as well as the propaganda pandering mass media.   It amazes me how so few can destroy so much so fast.

Anyone who wants to disarm the American citizens is truly self-serving, corrupt, and fearful that the American nationalists will wake up one day and put their foot down.

Weapons are often the vehicle of truth and peace because they are available when all else fails and most people are willing to work things out in a positive way to avoid using them or having them used against them.

The nationalists and the citizens of the United States of America are the true defenders of freedom and the Constitution of the United States. The right to bear arms was put in place so that our government would remain small, non-bureaucratic, non-tyrannical, and pure. It had nothing to with hunting.

Anyone who wishes to disarm the citizens of the United States is a fool and irresponsible. No sound argument can be made. Just remember that medical mistakes and automobiles are involved in the injuries and deaths of a much greater number of people.

Anti-gun legislation is not for the people of the United States. Anti-gun legislation is a selfish effort to preserve and increase the power of the soulless tyrants that seem to be running rampant within our government today.

Instead we should pursue a root cause analysis of why so many people are so upset, frustrated, angry, and selfish.

The first step is to denounce a consumer economy. We are not consumers. We are the people of the United States. We are the defenders of the Constitution. We are supposed to be the government and we are supposed to defend freedom at all costs.

Our Founding Fathers were some of the most brilliant people ever to walk the Earth. It is unfortunate that our children will never be taught the truth within our failing public school system. Are you starting to get it now?

I remember a time when I was a student and we were taught a course on rights and responsibilities. The responsibilities portion was deemed the most important part of the course because without responsibilities for our rights our rights would be taken away.

Responsibility for our rights is no longer taught by the school system to our children. Attorneys and politicians will not allow it. They would rather destroy the nation for their own financial and political gain.

We are in deep trouble. We should be worried about terrorists. We should be scared to death of many who hold office in Washington as well as with our state governments.”

 Martha Cothren - Super Teacher

Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she took all of the desks out of the classroom.

The kids came into first period, they walked in, there were no desks. They obviously looked around and said, "Ms. Cothren, where's our desk?" And she said, "You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn them."

They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades."

"No," she said.

"Maybe it's our behavior."

And she told them, "No, it's not even your behavior."

And so they came and went in the first period, still no desks in the classroom. Second period, same thing, third period etc. By early afternoon television news crews had gathered in Ms. Cothren's class to find out about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of the classroom. The last period of the day, Martha Cothren gathered her class. They were at this time sitting on the floor around the sides of the room. And she says, "Throughout the day no one has really understood how you earn the desks that sit in this classroom ordinarily." She said, "Now I'm going to tell you."

Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it, and as she did 27 U.S. veterans, wearing their uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. And they placed those school desks in rows, and then they stood along the wall. And by the time they had finished placing those desks, those kids for the first time I think perhaps in their lives understood how they earned those desks.

Martha said, "You don't have to earn those desks. These guys did it for you. They put them out there for you, but it's up to you to sit here responsibly to learn, to be good students and good citizens, because they paid a price for you to have that desk, and don't ever forget it."

My friend, I think sometimes we forget that the freedoms that we have are freedoms not because of celebrities. The freedoms are because of ordinary people who did extraordinary things, who loved this country more than life itself, and who not only earned a school desk for a kid at the Robinson High School in Little Rock, but who earned a seat for you and me to enjoy this great land we call home, this wonderful nation that we better love enough to protect and preserve with the kind of conservative, solid values and principles that made us a great nation.

"We live in the Land of the Free because of the brave"

Remember our Troops...

For Rosie O'Donnell to blame Columbine on guns is like:
Blaming fat - on spoons, trash - on flies, the dope problem - on growers rather than users, and
an unregistered vote by an incompetent voter - on the ballot.
Her bulb is not getting its full current.

Just the other day I witnessed a gun chasing this guy down the street,  it's arms and legs pumping like a cheetah after lunch.  You could tell by the look in it's eyes, that gun was really set on doing the poor guy harm.   Relentless in its determination, it caught and killed him!   The poor guy, it must have been abuse as a child that made him rape and kill that woman.   But by golly, if the gun "safety" groups have their way no gun will ever do that to some poor guy again!

Some few hundred years ago, Europe burnt tens of thousands of women as witches.   If they were witches why didn't they turn their tormentors into swine?   At least the pigs would have fed the neighborhood.

If gun owners are the ignorant, blood thirsty, beast that so many want you to believe them to be, why haven't they slaughtered all the gun-grabbers?

What can a woman do about a rapist with a neck the size of her head? -- How about something in size 9mm!

Why do you think crime against the person is way down in all 31 states with concealed carry?

They try, but if the police could truly protect you, why is there crime anywhere in America?   You have an absolute natural right, even a duty to protect yourself, your family, your friends, and your property, and yet there are hundreds of gun-grabbers, working under the guise of "keeping you safe", striving to take that right from you, even at the cost of your life.

Do you want the police coming into your home, and lecturing you on "living right", as they do in Japan?

Think about it: - Stay Free! - Protect Yourself!    It's your RIGHT and not a government privilege
